Haiti Fundraiser - 2022

Haiti Ministry Fundraising Letter - 2022

Dear St. Ann's Parishioner,

2021 has been an extremely difficult year for our sisters and brothers in Haiti. Rarely has Haiti had such heavy news coverage, most of it negative, filled with violence, kidnappings, hunger, political unrest, disease and natural disaster. It would be easy to label the situation in Haiti as “hopeless” but to do that would be ignoring the millions of Haitians, young and old, who have endured hardships, yet continue to hope for a better life for themselves and their children. It is this hope for a better future that characterizes the people in our church and school in Dubuisson, Haiti.

While many of the public schools in Haiti have remained closed, our school, through your generous contributions this past year, has remained open, serving just under 300 students.  The school has continued to provide daily instruction, meals and a bit of stability for our pupils and their families. We have been in close contact with Father Guy and he has kept us abreast of the local conditions. The violence of Port-a-Prince has not spread to the Diocese of Hinche, but there have been shortages of food and fuel. Our Haiti Ministry has responded with extra funds during the most recent food shortage, which provided food boxes for 500 citizens in the area.

As part of our Haiti Ministry’s goal of “funding for the future,” we have also sent $3000 to the new program started by the Bishop of the Hinche Diocese to create jobs and support those parishes that are not fortunate enough to have a “twin” parish in the US.  Jobs created by the bishop’s fund include a bakery, an automotive repair and maintenance shop, and a furniture workshop, where badly needed desks for our school were made.

There is a saying in Haiti that “Hope is Life”. As in medieval times, it is the Church, the Body of Christ, that helps people through dark times. Haitians are struggling, but their spirit refuses to be extinguished. In closing, we would like to offer you a taste of that Haitian Hope by clicking on the site below.

With all of this in mind, we would like each of you to consider donating to our annual fundraising effort.  If each parishioner gives a little, it will add up to a lot. You can see what a difference it makes, and remember, 100% of all monies donated goes directly to benefit our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
